There is a reoccurring theme that keeps coming up in my life- “Health is more than just eating well”. Health or wellness or whatever buzzword you like is so much more than just eating healthy food, or exercising yourself to death. It involves multiple factors that all interact with one another. If one is ignored, or out of balance, it can be detrimental to your overall health and wellness. I see people day in and day out who say “I just can’t lose weight- I have this injury that won’t let me exercise” (Remember I am a physical therapist so I see injured people everyday). To that I reply, “Tell me what your diet has been like since your injury”and then they look at me and smile and say well… I haven’t been eating great either
We seem to think that exercise alone contributes to overall wellness or weight loss (at least this has been my experience in the midwest). I am here to tell you that there are so many other ways to improve your health. Yes, it does require you to set time aside from your busy schedule, but I guarantee you, if you swap out Facebook or Instagram time for one of these self care ideas once a day you will have plenty of time to fit it in and you will notice small improvements to your health. Being a full time working mother, there are times I feel guilty about taking time away from my family to work on “me” but I have found that when I take care of myself, not only do I benefit, but my family gets the best version of myself and I think they deserve that.
So my advice for you is to take time to rest, replenish, and simply take care of yourself because no one else can do it for you and if you don’t, I am afraid you will regret it when you are older- I know my momma did.

To improve eating habits:
To increase your circulation, scrub your entire body with a hot, damp washcloth morning and or night. The process of a “hot towel scrub” has a deeper physical, mental and emotional effect when done at the sink as opposed to in the shower”
Meditation and Exercise:
Treat yourself to regular daily quiet time- study, pray, meditate to recharge yourself- don’t knock it until you have tried it- seriously one of my favorite things to do.
Include exercise as part of your daily life- try new exercises that are fun.
